Within the Computing Services Department the Learning Technologies Group provides a number of services specifically aimed at tutors and lecturers. It hosts WebLearn (the University's Virtual Learning Environment), runs a range of courses to develop IT skills and offers advice to anyone wishing to explore the use of e-learning. The department also holds a number of events including Tools for Teaching, the annual OxTalent awards, the "Shock" and "Beyond" national conferences, and lunchtime talks aimed at showcasing best practice.

The Tools for Teaching project involved conducting in-depth interviews with academics from a range of subject disciplines to gain a better understanding of how they perceive Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The findings of this work have been published and presented to a range of academic research communities.

This research resulted in the organisation of the Tools for Teaching event held on the 23rd April 2007 at the Computing Services. The aim of the session was to introduce the 60 tutors who attended to a wide range of technologies and discuss how these technologies could be used within their teaching. The event was focused on how technologies could be used within tutorials, lectures, assessment, administration and to support communication.

Technology guides are available that describe these technologies along with an area in WebLearn that further illustrates how technologies can be used to support teaching at Oxford.
