1. Downloading & Installing the TSM Windows client for archive
There are two methods of configuring the Windows TSM archive client, dependent on whether your client machine is already using the TSM software for the HFS backup service or not.
If you are not already using the HFS backup service on this machine then:
- Download the TSM software.
- Install the software by running the downloaded file. You will be prompted for a TSM nodename and password - this is the TSM archive project name and TSM password given to you at the time the project was approved.
- Please now read Initial considerations before using TSM archive before reading ...
- ... the section Using TSM archive & retrieve on your client platform.
If you are already using TSM software to back up, you just need to follow the following steps.
- Download the template archive configuration file
dsm.opt.archive
and copy it to the folder
C:\Program Files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\. - Edit this file by changing the Nodename value from CHANGE.THIS to your archive account name you have been given (typically of the form PROJECT_ARCHIVE.DEPT).
- Now create a new shortcut on your Windows desktop with the following command line:
"C:\Program Files\tivoli\TSM\baclient\dsm.exe" -optfile=dsm.opt.archive
Note that the positioning of the quotation marks is significant. Name the shortcut something like "TSM Archive Client" to distinguish it from the backup client. You will now be able to access the HFS archive server via this new shortcut while continuing to access the HFS Backup server via the usual TSM Backup-Archive GUI shortcut. - Please now read Initial considerations before using TSM archive before reading ...
- ... the section Using TSM archive & retrieve on your client platform.
