This article will guide you through a number of checks to ensure that you have the appropriate network connectivity to install the TSM Client Software.
In addition to the error message displayed the %temp%/tsm-install.log will contain repeated "winsock" errors |
| Symptom |
Error message "Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument" occurs when attempting to install the TSM Client - this happens after the TSM Client software has been downloaded and occurs during the installation routine

| Cause |
This happens due to the client not being able to connect to any of the HFS Servers - during the installation routine |
| Resolution |
Please follow these troubleshooting steps to ensuring you have the appropriate connectivity:
- Are you able to access the internet?
- Yes - please proceed to next point
- No - there is a local network connectivity issue, please resolve this before attempting to use the TSM Services
- Have you registered for the VPN Backup Service?
- Yes - ensure VPN is running and connected if you are not on the University Network, otherwise proceed to the next point
- No - please proceed to next point
- Are you connected directly to the Oxford University Network? (i.e. not via Wireless or VPN)
- Yes - please proceed to next point
- No - You must be connected directly to the Oxford University network via an ethernet cable to connect
to the TSM Backup Services - for more details about this please read the limitation of the TSM Backup Services
