Summary This article will guide you through a number of checks to ensure that you have the appropriate network connectivity to install the TSM Client Software. In addition to the error message displayed the %temp%/tsm-install.log will contain repeated "winsock" errors
Symptom Error message "Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument" occurs when attempting to install the TSM Client - this happens after the TSM Client software has been downloaded and occurs during the installation routine
Cause This happens due to the client not being able to connect to any of the HFS Servers - during the installation routine
Resolution Please follow these troubleshooting steps to ensuring you have the appropriate connectivity:
  1. Are you able to access the internet?
    1. Yes - please proceed to next point
    2. No - there is a local network connectivity issue, please resolve this before attempting to use the TSM Services
  2. Have you registered for the VPN Backup Service?
    1. Yes - ensure VPN is running and connected if you are not on the University Network, otherwise proceed to the next point
    2. No - please proceed to next point
  3. Are you connected directly to the Oxford University Network? (i.e. not via Wireless or VPN)
    1. Yes - please proceed to next point
    2. No - You must be connected directly to the Oxford University network via an ethernet cable to connect to the TSM Backup Services - for more details about this please read the limitation of the TSM Backup Services
Status You must have sufficient network connectivity in order to successfully complete the TSM Installation
