2. Downloading the Correct TSM Software for Microsoft Windows
2.1. 32-Bit or 64-Bit Windows?
The latest OUCS TSM Windows client is available to download in both Windows 32-bit and Windows 64-bit versions. Most new computers run 64-bit versions of Windows, but if you have an old machine it is likely to be 32-bit. If you are unsure about your version, you can check which you are running by following the instructions on the Microsoft page entitled Is my PC running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?.
2.2. Beginning the TSM client download
Now that you know which Windows build you are using, please click on the appropriate link below to begin downloading the TSM client, then follow the instructions below.
Upgrading? If you already have TSM installed and want to upgrade or reinstall it, then please follow the instructions below. There is no need to remove the existing TSM version that you already have before upgrading.
Restoring non-Windows data? If you are installing TSM because you need to restore data backed up from a Mac or Linux machine, please note that this is not possible with TSM for Windows - you need to restore your data to the same type of system as the one that you used to back it up. Please see further our FAQ item How do I perform a restore?.
Click on the appropriate link below to begin downloading the TSM client. You need to be connected to the university network to download, install and use TSM: running VPN software will suffice if you have registered for VPN-based backup; otherwise a direct connection to the university network is required.
How you complete the TSM software download depends on which web browser you are using, because the process is different. Please follow the appropriate section below.
2.3. Completing the TSM client download
2.3.1. Users running browsers other than IE9 or IE10 (e.g. IE8, Firefox or Chrome)
Another screen will appear prompting for a location to save the file; select the Desktop and click
Save.The file will now be saved to your local desktop and you are ready to begin the TSM client software installation.
2.3.2. Users running Internet Explorer 9 or 10
A pop-up will appear at the bottom of the Internet Explorer window, like the one below.
Click on the drop-down icon to the right of the
Savebutton, and selectSave asfrom the drop-down menu.Another screen will appear prompting for a location to save the file; select the Desktop and click
Save.The pop-up at the bottom of the Internet Explorer window will show the progress of the download and a virus scan. At the end, a warning will appear like the one below. Close it by clicking the
Xat the top right corner of the pop-up.The file will now have been saved to your local desktop and you are ready to begin the TSM client installation.
2.3.2.1. Users using IE 10 starting from Windows 8 Start or Search
A pop-up will appear at the bottom of the Internet Explorer window, like the one below. Click
SaveThe pop-up at the bottom of the Internet Explorer window will show the progress of the download and a virus scan. At the end, a completion message will appear like the one below.
Click
Runto start the installation if you are ready. Or clickCloseto run the installation later. The file is stored in the 'Downloads' directory within your home directory (also known as user directory) by default.
