If you have a problem with the operation of the TSM client and report this to either the Help Centre or the HFS Team it is likely you will be asked to provide us with your TSM configuration and log files. This is a collection of files that can be useful in determining the problems experienced at the client end.

1. Automatically copying the files centrally

The logs are not all stored in the same place and can grow quite large in size, especially when having problems. To support you in providing us with the correct information the instructions below will assist you in collecting the current log files and how to ensure these are sent to us in a compressed format:

Copying the required files

  1. Click on Collect the TSM Log Files
    • If you have the option to Run, then do so, otherwise Download/Save the file and run the exe locally
    • When prompted click on the Unzip
    • It will advise you that "1 file(s) unzipped successfully" click OK
    • The script will now automatically run - Follow the On-Screen prompts
  2. The script will create a folder on your local desktop called TSMLogs and it will copy the required log files to this location.
  3. During the copy process an additional log file will be created called LogFiles.txt and this will record which file was copied or whether the file didn't exist
  4. You will receive a prompt when the script has finished running, click OK

With all the required log files copied centrally you now need Zip the files up before sending - this is because some of the log files can grow to be very large. Compressing the files into a Zip file will substantially reduce the size of the files you are sending.

Zipping up the files

  1. Right click on the TSMLogs folder on your desktop
  2. If you have some 3rd party compression software installed then use the option to "Add to Zip" or "Add to Archive"
  3. If you don't have 3rd party compression software, choose [Send to] and then [Compressed (Zipped) Folder]
  4. This will create a TSMLogs.zip file on your desktop, reply to the email from the Help Centre or HFS Team member with this information and attach the Zip file

Remember - When your issue has been resolved you can delete the TSMLogs folder and TSMLogs.zip file from your desktop

2. Manually copying the files centrally

If you prefer to copy the files to a central location manually, or if the script would not run on your machine then please follow these instructions:

Copying the required files

  1. On your desktop right click and chose [New] and then [Folder]
  2. Name the folder TSMLogs
  3. Browse to c:\program files\tivoli\tsm\baclient, then copy each of the following files into the TSMLogs folder on your desktop:
    • dsm.opt
    • dsmsched.log
    • dsmerror.log
    • dsmj.log
  4. Click on Start and then Run, in the box provided type %temp% and hit Enter
  5. Copy the tsm-install.log file to your TSMLogs folder on your desktop
  6. All the required log files are now collected, please proceed to Zipping up the file.
