To open the TSM client go [Start] >
[All Programs] > [Tivoli Storage Manager] > [Backup-Archive GUI].
Click on the Utilities
menu and choose the [Setup Wizard] option to display the following.
Choose the Help me configure the TSM Client Scheduler option.
Select Next, and you will see the following screen. Ensure that the Install a new or additional scheduler option is
highlighted, then click the Next button.
Give the scheduler service an appropriate name and ensure that the Local Machine
radio button is checked. Do not select the Use the Client Acceptor daemon (CAD)... checkbox. Click
Next.
The next screen prompts for a path to the dsm.opt options file. This should point to the file
in the installation directory of the software - by default
c:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient\dsm.opt. Ensure that this is so and click Next.
In the following window, check the entry for Node name carefully and ensure that it matches the full Nodename under which
the machine was registered for HFS TSM backup. Typically this will be of the format MACHINE.DEPT or USERNAME-FREETEXT-DEPT.
If you are unsure of this, but can connect and run backups manually using the TSM Backup Client, then just use the
NODENAME entry from the dsm.opt options file here. Do not forget to enter
the TSM password in the second field before proceeding.
Ideally, the services should run under the System account. If the scheduler service is to run under any other account, before proceeding please read our page on how to back up in Windows as a non-administrative user. Without the necessary rights, the TSM scheduler will be unable to back up all the files and objects on the local system. The System account has all the necessary rights to back up the entire local filestore, and TSM advises that the service be installed under this account. You should select the option Automatically when Windows boots so that the service starts automatically.
Clicking the Next button displays the following screen, which prompts for the location of the schedule and error logs - by default
dsmsched.log
and dsmerror.log in the installation directory. We recommend accepting these defaults.
The next screen offers the possibility of starting the service directly after completion of the setup wizard. This is recommended.
Click Next and then you will be asked also to click on Apply, as shown below.
There will then be a pause while TSM puts your settings into effect:
Now the completion screen should be displayed. Click the Finish button. You have
now finished setting up the TSM scheduler service and it should now start if the immediate start option
was chosen. This can be checked as described in our page on
starting and checking the TSM scheduler in Windows.
