Secure single sign-on for the University of Oxford

We already have a database of authentication information for almost 30,000 users within the University of Oxford (namely, the user database for the Herald mail store service).

These usernames and passwords are already used for accessing other services (personal web pages, mailing list administration, and the interactive GNU/Linux cluster).
