Memberships

  • Association for Learning Technology (ALT) - University of Oxford is an institutional member of ALT. ALT is a professional and scholarly association which seeks to bring together all those with an interest in the use of learning technology. Each year ALT publish news letters, an online journal and host a large conference for researchers and practitioners. Institutional membership qualifies members of the University to a discount at events and conferences.
  • EDUCAUSE - LTG maintain a subscription to EDUCAUSE on behalf of the University. EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association in the United States whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology. There are many useful tools and resources on their site.
  • Sakai Foundation - Through our development of the WebLearn VLE at Oxford we are members of the Sakai Foundation. The Sakai Foundation is a member-based, non-profit corporation engaged in the collaborative design, development and distribution of open-source software for education, research and related scholarly activities. It encourages community-building between academic institutions. The Foundation also works to promote the wider adoption of community-source and open standards approaches to software solutions within higher education.
  • BUFVC (British Universities Film and Video Council) - Oxford University is a member of BUFVC. BUFVC is a representative body which promotes the production, study and use of film and related media in higher and further education and research. They run a range of events and training. Membership entitles University of Oxford staff to a discount at training events.
  • Second Life - Oxford University Computing Services pays a subscription to maintain an island in the virtual world Second Life. Universities and schools around the world use Second Life as part of their educational programmes. Our island is called Frideswide Island and is used to explore the role 3D collaborative environments can play in teaching and research.
