1. Introduction

The following instructions apply to using the Eduroam wireless service on Fedora distributions of GNU/Linux. If you find an error in the instructions, please contact wireless@oucs.ox.ac.uk, if you have general questions or need other assistance, contact help@oucs.ox.ac.uk

These instructions were compiled using Fedora 11 and NetworkManager Applet 0.7.1 under GNOME.

  1. In the top menu, select the NetworkManager icon on the right hand side which resembles two monitors, one behind the other. If you are not connected to any other networks there will be a small red cross present.

  2. From the drop down menu that appears select [eduroam] from the list of available networks.

  3. In the dialogue box that appears headed Wireless Network Authentication Required, provide the following information:
    • Wireless security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
    • Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
    • Anonymous identity: leave blank
    • CA certificate: leave as (None)
    • PEAP version: Automatic
    • Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
    • Username/Password: Enter your Remote Access account username followed by @OX.AC.UK and password (as set via https://register.oucs.ox.ac.uk/self/remote_access).

  4. Click the Connect button.
  5. A dialogue will appear asking you to provide a CA certificate. Select Choose CA Certificate.

  6. A file selection dialogue will appear. Choose the file /etc/pki/tls/cert.pem by either:
    • Pressing Ctrl+L to show the Location field, enter the filename into the field and type Enter, or
    • Selecting File System from the Places list on the left and then navigating through the etc, pki and tls directories before selecting cert.pem.
  7. Once connected, the NetworkManager icon will change to show the signal strength for the Eduroam access point you are connected to.
