Connecting to EDUROAM via XP Service Pack 2 with the Built in Supplicant
1. Introduction
The following instructions apply to using the Eduroam wireless service on Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 machines. If you find an error in the instructions, please contact wireless@oucs.ox.ac.uk , if you have general questions or need other assistance, contact help@oucs.ox.ac.uk
- Select
[Start]and then[Control Panel]. - If you dont see the
Network Connectionsicon then select the left hand side bar option toswitch to classic view. - Double click on
Network connections - If the
wireless network connectionis showing as disabled, then right click the icon and selectenable. - Right click on the
Wireless Network Connectionand selectproperties.
- Select the tab titled
[Wireless Networks]. If it doesn't exist, doublecheck that you've enabled the interface. - In the
preferred networkssection, click theaddbutton.
- In the
network nameSSID entereduroamin lower case (SSIDs are case sensitive). SelectWPAas theNetwork Authenticationmethod andAESas thedata encryptiontype.
- Select the
[Authentication]tab and in theEAP Typedrop down box selectProtected EAP(PEAP) instead of the default. Also uncheck the box that says "Authenticate as a computer".
- Select
Propertiesby the EAP selection options to open a new option window. In the window check the box that saysValidate Server Certificate. Enterradius0.oucs.ox.ac.uk;radius1.oucs.ox.ac.ukin theConnect to these serverssection. InTrusted Root Certification AuthoritiesSelectGTE Cybertrust Global Root CA. Uncheck the box that says "Do not prompt user..." , check "Enable Fast Reconnect" and on theEAP-MSCHAP secured passwordoption, click on theconfigurebutton.
- Uncheck the box to use your windows credentials, then click
OKthrough each menu to save your changes and return to the desktop.
- Once near a eduroam access point, select the access point from the possible connections and youll be prompted to enter your login details.

- Your login details must be entered to achieve full network usage.
Enter your Remote Access account username followed by @ox.ac.uk (e.g. abcd1234@ox.ac.uk) and your Remote Access password
(not your SSO).
