1. Introduction

The following instructions apply to using the Eduroam wireless service on Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 machines using the Intelpro wireless utilities (called a supplicant). If you find an error in the instructions, please contact wireless@oucs.ox.ac.uk , if you have general questions or need other assistance, contact help@oucs.ox.ac.uk

  1. Select [Start]
  2. Select [All Programs] then [IntelPROset Wireless] and [IntelPROset Wireless]
  3. In the screen that appears, click on profiles

  4. In the profiles screen, click on Add

  5. In the general settings screen, enter eduroam in the Profile Name field and in the Wireless network Name (SSID) field. This must be lower case as SSIDS are case sensitive. The operating mode should be Network (Infrastructure). Once complete select Next

  6. In the Security Settings page, fill in the details:

    • Enterprise Security
    • Network Authentication - WPA2-Enterprise
    • Data Encryption - AES-CCMP
    • Enable 802.1x - (ticked)
    • Authentication Type - PEAP
    • Authentication Protocol - MS-CHAP-V2
    • User Name - username@ox.ac.uk where username is your Remote Access account username, for example unit1234@ox.ac.uk (in this example hutchins@ox.ac.uk)
    • Domain - leave empty
    • Password - your Remote Access account password, (as set via https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/self/remote_access)
    • Roaming Identity - username@ox.ac.uk where username/password is your Remote Access account details (not your SSO) and append @OX.AC.UK after your username
    Once done, select Next
  7. The screen will now change to a second step, requesting certificate details. In this window the Validate Server Certificate box needs to be checked and AddTrust External CA Root should be selected from the list. Once done click on OK.

  8. Close the Profile window. If you're in range of an eduroam wireless access point, you should now be connected to eduroam. Close the Intel PROSet configuration tool.
