OWL for University members using VPN with Windows XP

1. Introduction

The following instructions apply to using the OWL wireless network on Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 3 machines.

From the Desktop:
- [Double Left Click] the Wireless Networking Icon from the System Tray
- Next select the OWL wireless network by [Mouse Clicking] it.
- Now click the Connect button at the bottom right hand side of Wireless Networking Window to connect, as shown below:
You should now see a box pop up with the message beginning You are connecting to the unsecured network "OWL"..., click the Connect Anyway button.
You should now be connected to the OWL Wireless network as indicated by the message Connected next to the OWL network listing:
Please note that connection does not provide Internet access without further authentication, please continue reading for authentication methods.

Otherwise you will now need to configure a VPN connection to gain access to the Internet:
