Oxford Wireless LAN - OWL logo
This service makes use of the Remote Access accounts and Cisco VPN service
that OUCS offers to all University members. Our wireless access points are
configured to broadcast the settings of this service, making it very easy to
configure. The VPN application provides all the authorization, encryption and
accounting that is required for a wireless network.
The following sections explain how to connect to and use this service on a
variety of platforms, but there are some prerequisites. Make sure you have the
following before continuing:
- A valid and active OUCS
Remote Access account
- The Cisco VPN Client installed and configured on your system. There
are complete instructions for
this elsewhere on our pages. It is highly recommended that you test
the operation of the Cisco VPN client with a regular wired
connection
- Newer iPhones and iPods Touch have the Cisco VPN client already
installed (the
configuration instructions show you how to find out if yours does).
- For Palm, Pocket PC or other PDA devices there is currently no
support for the Cisco VPN Client. There
are a number of native (built-in) clients and commercial or non-commercial third-party products that support connections to the OUCS VPN Service.
See the Configuring other VPN clients to use the OUCS VPN Service page for more information.
