OWL for University members using VPN with Windows 7

1. Introduction

The following instructions apply to using the OWL wireless network on Microsoft Windows 7 machines.

From the Desktop:
- [Mouse Click] the Networking Icon from the System Tray
- Next select the OWL wireless network by [Mouse Clicking] it, as shown in the image below:
Now [Mouse Click] the Connect button that appears below the signal indicator next to the OWL network, as shown below:
You should now see the message Connecting to OWL... and a grey bar with scrolling green filler as shown in the image below:
You should now be connected to the OWL Wireless network. However, the initial connection does not provide Internet access without further authentication as shown in the image below (note the "No Internet Access" sub-heading):

If you've been provided with OWL Visitor credentials then please follow the instructions at http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/network/wireless/services/owl/visitor/.

Otherwise you will now need to configure a VPN connection to gain access to the Internet:

If you'd like to use the freely available Cisco VPN Client then instructions can be found at http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/network/vpn/
If you'd prefer to use third party VPN clients then a list of instructions for various third parties' offerings can be found at http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/network/vpn/other-clients/
