1. General Instructions
You will need to know your Oxford username (typically four letters and four numbers, e.g. pemb0471) and password before starting.
If you are have a lot of data (email, contacts, etc) to synchronise then you are advised to do the initial synchronisation via a wireless connection if possible; it will be faster and less likely to lose the connection during synchronisation.
Please note: you can only configure your Windows Mobile device to connect to one Exchange account at any one time, so if you already have an Exchange account configured then you will not be able to add your Nexus account until/unless you delete the pairing to the existing Exchange account. (See below for how to delete a pairing.)
- Run ActiveSync from the
[Start]Menu and follow the 'set up your device' link.
- Enter your email address. Do not tick 'Attempt to
detect Exchange Server Settings automatically', it will not work.
- Enter your Oxford username in the format
username@nexus.ox.ac.uk, e.g. if your username is pemb0471 you would enterpemb0471@nexus.ox.ac.uk. Leave theDomainfield blank. If you want to allow automatic updating and syncing, enter your password in thePasswordfield and tick the 'Save password' box below. Please note username@nexus.ox.ac.uk is NOT your email address, it is only used by the auto-discovery system to find an account.
- In the
Server addressfield, enternexus.ox.ac.uk. Tick the box marked 'This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection'.
- Choose the data you want to synchronise:
- Adjust synchronisation settings to suit your
needs. You can choose how many days/weeks of past email
and calendar items you want to synchronise, and you can
choose to exclude large emails and/or attachments (this will
speed up synchronisation and keep data transfer costs down).
- Once you have set all these options, synchronisation
will begin. If you have a lot of data, it may take some time.
