These Outlook 2007 manual configuration instructions should only be used when the Configuration using the Outlook autodiscovery service has not worked for you.
The method for setting up Outlook 2007 manually depends on whether or not you have previously used the program to connect to another email account, such as Hotmail, Gmail, or an account with another University or Internet Service Provider, on the computer you are currently using. Please choose from the sections below:
1. Outlook 2007 configuration for new Outlook 2007 users
If you have not used Outlook 2007 before, these instructions will guide you through the process of setting up Outlook to connect to your Nexus account.
When you run Outlook for the first time, you will be presented with the Startup Wizard:
Outlook may offer to import your settings from an existing email program. You
want to set up a new account, so choose Do not upgrade and click
Next.
On the Configure Email Account screen, make sure that
Yes is selected, and click Next.
Tick the checkbox labelled Manually configure server settings or
additional server types and click Next to
continue.
Choose account type Microsoft Exchange and click
Next.
Enter nexusoutlook as the Microsoft Exchange Server,
and your Single Sign-On username. Leave the Use Cached Exchange
Mode box ticked. Do not try the Check Name
button at this point as it will not connect. Instead click on the More
settings... button and select the Connection tab
on the resulting screen.
Tick the box labelled Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP and
click Exchange Proxy Settings...
Enter nexus.ox.ac.uk as the URL to connect to my proxy
server for Exchange. Ensure that the boxes marked Connect
using SSL only, On fast networks, connect using HTTP first,
then connect using TCP/IP and On slow networks, connect using
HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP are checked. Select
Basic Authentication and click OK, then
click OK again. You may see a message that you need to restart
Outlook, if so, then please remember to do so once you have finished setting up
your account. Click Next to continue.
Click Finish on the Congratulations screen, to close the Account
Wizard. There will probably be a short delay while Outlook establishes a
connection with the Nexus server.
You will now be prompted to log in. Enter username@nexus.ox.ac.uk
followed by your University SSO password.
Please note username@nexus.ox.ac.uk is NOT your email address, it is only used by the auto-discovery system to find an account.
If you do not know your username, please contact the Help Centre. If you do not know your password, go to WebAuth to reset it.
Click OK. There may now be a short delay while Outlook connects to your account.
You should now see your inbox on Nexus. If you have any problems, in the first instance you should contact your local (College or Department) IT staff. If they cannot help then please contact the Help Centre for further assistance.

Click New... to begin setting up your Nexus account.
Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP and click
Next.

and your Single Sign-On username. Leave the Use Cached Exchange
Mode box ticked. Do not try the Check Name
button at this point as it will not connect. Instead click on the More
settings... button and select the Connection tab
on the resulting screen.
Tick the box labelled Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP and
click Exchange Proxy Settings...
Enter nexus.ox.ac.uk as the URL to connect to my proxy
server for Exchange. Ensure that the boxes marked Connect
using SSL only, On fast networks, connect using HTTP first,
then connect using TCP/IP and On slow networks, connect using
HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP are checked. Select
Basic Authentication and click OK. You may
see a message that you need to restart Outlook, if so, then please remember to
do so once you have finished setting up your account. Click OK
and then Next to continue.
You will probably see a warning screen informing you that you have changed where
some of your new e-mail messages and calendar information is saved. Click
OK to continue.
You will now be prompted to log in. Enter your username in the form of
username@nexus.ox.ac.uk and your Single Sign-On (SSO)
password.
Please note username@nexus.ox.ac.uk is NOT your email address, it is only used by the auto-discovery system to find an account.

Setup screen.
