9. Phase Out of Username.Herald

Do you connect to Oxford Nexus email via an IMAP email client using username.herald.ox.ac.uk as the connection 'server'?

OUCS's Herald service was phased out in late 2009 and this connection method was continued temporarily to enable people to change the connection details at their own pace.

However, the username.herald service is going to be withdrawn on 29th November 2011.

If this applies to you, you will have already received a warning email. All you need to do is to open the configuration settings in your email client and change the incoming server name from username.herald.ox.ac.uk to imap.nexus.ox.ac.uk

Your email should continue to function as normal after amending these connection settings and - even if you make a mistake setting them - your server-side email will be safe.

If you are using Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail on OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) we strongly recommend that you reconfigure it more extensively to act as a Groupware client. This will give you the complete range of integrated service features such as email, shared calendars, contacts, and task management. Groupware configuration instructions.

Please make the appropriate configuration change as soon as possible. If you don't, further email reminders will be sent.

Not sure what to do? Please ask your local IT Support, or the OUCS Help Centre for advice.
