1. The role of password expiry

Password expiry is one of several methods used to reduce the likelihood of the password for an account becoming known to anyone other than the account owner. Some of the other methods are:

  • complexity rules
  • registration (activation) procedure
  • strong security offered by authenticating services
  • SSO environment
  • response to security incidents
  • rules and regulations (eg. policy)
