Xaira Project Plan

1. Overview

This document is the project plan for the Mellon-funded Xaira Development Project, which began 1 Aug 2004. The objectives of the project may be briefly summarized as follows:

to remove the current system's dependence on a single operating system platform
to enhance its documentation and description
to validate its usability in as wide a range of research applications as possible

To achieve these, we identify the following goals:

re-define the server as a set of objects and methods (the Xaira Object Model), supporting all the functionality of the current Xaira client
produce an open source implementation of Xairo and test it on at least two different hardware platforms
define and test client applications for Xairo using a variety of interfaces (close coupled for Windows, via web services)
develop internationalized help systems and documentation
develop a network of beta testers and evaluators
