On 24/08/03 the University changed to a new provider for calls to the two main Directory Enquires Services.
Calls to any Inland Directory Enquiries service (i.e. 192 or 118xxx) are routed to 118848, a service operated by Conduit Enterprises Limited (aka '118888').
All calls to International Directory Enquiries (i.e. 153) are routed to 118899, a service again provided by Conduit Enterprises.
The Telecommunications Panel made this decision based on factors such as cost and quality and following advice from the TUA. Using these particular services prevents onward connection of calls at up to ten times the cost of a local call.
The cost of a call to Inland Directory Enquiries (118848) is 17.02 pence per minute excluding VAT and the cost of a call to International Directory Enquiries (118899) is 63.83 pence per minute excluding VAT.
Please note that web-based Directory Enquiries services such as http://www.bt.com/directory-enquiries/ are free and that calls to Visually Impaired and Disabled Directory Enquiries on 195 are unaffected.
