The Hummingbird Exceed package needs some configuration if you wish to use the X11 server to communicate with computers such as molbiol or departmental and college servers, and some instructions are given below.

In addition, if you have installed firewall software on your PC, or if you run Windows XP which comes with its own firewall, you may need to configure the firewall further before you can communicate with other computers using Exceed. Some information on this, together with details of how to check whether the Windows XP firewall is active, are given below.
