Numerous versions of the poem survive, including one printed in 'The London Mercury' in 1924. This version was included in P.J. Kavanagh's 'Ivor Gurney: Collected Poems' (2004). Alternative versions include an additional 8 lines at the end of the poem, substantially altering its overall mood.|
