| Title | Jack Morten's Entrenching tool |
| Notes | The entrenching tool as it is today, still in use in the garden. It was used when the 7th Manchesters went to Gallipoli when the men were desperate to dig in before daylight. I had no idea it was such an icon until I read letters from my father-in-law to his parents when the tool is mentioned. Editor's Comment: The 'Sirhind' or Pattern 1908 Entrenching Tool, with helve. Pte. 2393 John Clarke Morten, 1/7th Bn. Manchester Regiment, was commissioned Second Lieutenant and later attached to the Royal Air Force. |
