Arthur Josiah Wheatley, of the 2nd Worcesters (father of Pamela Barnard) used
to recall a soldier called Dickie New. When they went over the top together
they all dropped to the ground to escape the machine gun fire. Dickie New,
always a clumsy man, had his legs sticking up behind him instead of laying
flat. He was shot through both legs, and lost one.
