Her younger brother, Edward, immediately attempted to enlist. Although it took some time, he and Roland Leighton, Geoffrey Thurlow and Victor Richardson, all friends from school, eventually joined up. Here is a photograph of Edward, Roland and Victor in their Officer's Training Corp uniforms before the war.
