On the fourth page of the letter he includes a poem he is working on. Does it look familiar? It also looks a bit different. Think of the first stanza of the poem you have been reading:
‘Oh! Jesus Christ! I'm hit,' he said; and died.
Whether he vainly cursed or prayed indeed,
The Bullets chirped---In vain, vain, vain!
Machine-guns chuckled---Tut-tut! Tut-tut!
And the Big Gun guffawed.’
It looks like the poem in the letter but it’s not exactly the same is it? Can you see differences?
