Isaac Rosenberg: Poetry in the trenches
Poetry in the trenches
The previous photograph shows a linking trench, but conditions in the sections where a soldier like Private Rosenberg spent much of his time would be equally cramped and dirty. This made writing poetry very difficult. This image is of a manuscript of the poem 'Daughters of War', written while Rosenberg was in France.
This pathway gives a brief overview of some of Isaac Rosenberg's poetry and letters, and some of the images that might have inspired him during his time spent in France from the summer of 1916 until his death on 1st April, 1918.
