| Title | Grave of Pioneer John Dixon |
| Notes | My grandfather John Harold Tinson Dixon left his business as a dentist qualified pharmaceutical chemist in Worksop to join the Royal Engineers in December 1915, at which time he had a wife and two young children. He was posted to the Army Reserve, was recalled in May 1916, was posted to France on 2 June and was killed in the Battle of the Somme on 14 July. One of these pictures is of the original document sent to his widow showing a photograph of the (temporary) headstone, the other is of the grave as it was a few years ago, with a permanent stone memorial. John is not remembered on the war memorial in his home town of Worksop - maybe one day ..! |
