| Notes | In this letter, Reggie tells Len of his happiness at having been treated so kindly by his (Len's) family. He talks of his hopes for victory, and says he is looking forward to his leave 'like a little boy looks forward to Xmas'. The letter ends 'you have made one life happy'. Reggie was killed in action two days later (5 October 1918). Editor's Comment: Pte. 40314 Leonard Ornellas, North Staffordshire Regiment Acting Bombardier 121476 George (Reggie) Crooke, 113th Bty. 25th Bde., Royal Field Artillery, died 5th October 1918, aged 26, buried Berthaucourt Communal Cemetery, Pontru. |
