| Title | Letter home written by 2nd Lt Albert Brainerd Raynes about the Christmas truce of 1914 |
| Notes | Letter home written by my uncle, 2nd Lt Albert Brainerd Raynes, about the Christmas truce of 1914. He was killed at Neuve Chapelle on 10th March 1915, and I think the location for the letter is probably similar. Editor's Comment: Second Lieutenant Albert Brainerd Raynes, Royal Sussex Regiment, attached 2nd Bn. Royal Berkshire Regiment, was killed in action on 10th March 1915, aged 20. The son of Albert Edward and Alice Mary Raynes, of 201, Denman St., Nottingham, he is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. Lieutenant Raynes fell on the opening day of the battle of Neuve Chapelle, his battalion taking part in the attack of the 8th Division. |
