| Notes | Corporal Charles W. Carr is photographed with his sister Edith. Edith died of consumption in 1916. Charles' son Tony Carr recalls that Charles got some leave without expecting it, and went by train home to his family in Llandrindod Wells arriving very early in the morning on the mil train - too early to wake the family. So he sat with the signalman (a friend of the family) in the signalbox at Llandrindod Station. During the conversation the signalman unfortunately had to break the news to Charles that his sister had died that week! Part of large collection of photos and memoribilia relating to Serjeant 3091 (later 240965) Charles Woodward Carr, 2/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment - kept by Mrs Gill Porter and Mr Tony Carr of their father. |
