| Notes | Sapper E Grantham was awarded a Bravery Certificate (submitted separately) after this event when a Corporal was wounded but this and a tea tin (submitted separately) saved him by deflecting a bullet. A letter (also submitted separately) described the event. He and another soldier got the Corporal back safely. Editor's Comment: Shaving stick tin, one of two that deflected bullet. Sapper 146217 Ernest Grantham, 156th Field Company, Royal Engineers. The 156th Field Coy. were attached to the 16th (Irish) Division. |
