| Notes | When the ammunition in one of the gun pits had set alight by the explosion of a hostile shell, he without any hesitation, rushed up and single-handed, removed the burning camoflauge, and by shovelling earth on the ammunition successfully quenched the fire. But for his prompt and gallant action the entire pit including the gun would have been lost.' Taken from The Times 28th September 1918. Editor's Comment: Military Cross, War and Victory Medals with ribbons, of Second Lieutenant Frederick Marshall, Royal Field Artillery. 'The Times' prints verbatim his citation in the London Gazette of 16th September 1918. |
