| Title | Letter from Dean Inge to Harold Begbie |
| Notes | Harold Begbie's attitude to the war was less jingoistic than the recruiting poem 'Fall In' would seem to demonstrate. He had a great sympathy towards conscientious objectors, writing a novel 'Mr Sterling Stick it Out' about their plight which he was unable to get published until after the war. He tried to get a petition organised for a more humane and understanding treatment of them. This letter is the reply from W R Inge 1860-1954 the Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral. I don't know the significance of the other names written on the letter; perhaps other possible signatories. |
