| Notes | Australian soldier and peasant. Probably 1915 or early 1916, possibly Lemnos or Mudros island or Egypt. This photograph was most probably taken, or perhaps collected, by 494 Sergeant Joseph Cecil Thompson of the 9th Battalion 1st AIF during his service at Galliopli and in Egypt. Editor's Comment: The 9th Bn., as part of 3rd Brg. Australian Imperial Force, were the first to land at the ANZAC beachead on Gallipoli, 25th April 1915. |
